al-Aziz bi'llah was the sixth Caliph of the Fatimid Caliphate, reigning from 975 to 996. During his tenure, he faced several significant conflicts, including the Byzantine-Arab Wars. One of the most important wars that occurred during his rule was the Battle of Apamea in 998, where the Fatimids, led by al-Aziz's general Ja'far ibn Fallah, defeated the Byzantine forces. This victory secured the Fatimid control over northern Syria. Another notable conflict was the Zirid revolt in 989, led by the Zirid dynasty in Ifriqiya. Although the revolt was eventually suppressed, it posed a significant challenge to al-Aziz's authority in the region.
