Ashot II "the Iron" was a King of the Bagratid Kingdom of Armenia, reigning from 914 to 928. During his tenure, he faced several significant wars and revolts. One of the most important conflicts was the rebellion led by the Armenian nobleman Mushegh Mamikonian in 914, which challenged Ashot II's authority. Another notable war occurred in 921 when the Byzantine Empire launched an invasion of Armenia, resulting in a fierce battle known as the Battle of Bagrevand. Ashot II "the Iron" successfully defended his kingdom and secured its independence.
