Beornwulf was a King who ruled over the Kingdom of Mercia during the period of 823-826. During his reign, Mercia faced significant challenges, including the Battle of Ellandun in 825, where Beornwulf's forces were defeated by the Wessex army led by King Egbert. This defeat marked the decline of Mercian power and the rise of Wessex as the dominant kingdom in England. Additionally, in 826, Beornwulf faced a revolt led by his own ealdormen, which further weakened his rule. Despite his efforts, Beornwulf was unable to maintain the stability and strength of Mercia, ultimately leading to its downfall.
