Fahri Korutürk was the 6th President of Turkey, serving from 1973 to 1980. During his tenure, Turkey faced significant challenges, including the Cyprus conflict. The most important war that occurred during Korutürk's rule was the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, which was a direct response to the Greek Cypriot coup and aimed to protect the Turkish Cypriot population. This military intervention lasted from July to August 1974 and resulted in the division of the island into the internationally recognized Republic of Cyprus and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
