Habib Bourguiba was the President of the Republic of Tunisia from 1957 to 1987. During his tenure, Tunisia experienced several significant conflicts, including the Bizerte Crisis in 1961 and the Six-Day War in 1967. The Bizerte Crisis occurred in July 1961 when tensions between Tunisia and France escalated over the French military presence in the city of Bizerte. The conflict resulted in a brief armed confrontation and ultimately led to the withdrawal of French forces from Tunisia. The Six-Day War took place in June 1967 between Israel and its neighboring Arab states, including Tunisia. Although Tunisia did not actively participate in the war, it provided support to the Arab cause and experienced some military clashes along its border with Israel.
