Louis VIII was the King of France who ruled from 1223 to 1226. During his short reign, he faced significant military challenges. One of the most important wars that occurred during his tenure was the Albigensian Crusade, which began in 1209 and lasted until 1229. This conflict aimed to eradicate the Cathar heresy in southern France. Additionally, Louis VIII also led the French forces in the War of Saintonge against the English in 1242, which was a part of the larger conflict known as the Capetian-Plantagenet rivalry. Despite his brief reign, Louis VIII's military campaigns left a lasting impact on the Kingdom of France.
