Mstislav I of Kiev, also known as Mstislav the Great, was the Grand Prince of Kiev in Kievan Rus' from 1125 to 1132. During his reign, he faced several significant conflicts, including the Rus'-Cumans War (1129-1131) and the Novgorod Rebellion (1130-1132). The Rus'-Cumans War was a series of military campaigns against the Cumans, a nomadic Turkic people, which resulted in a temporary peace treaty. The Novgorod Rebellion, on the other hand, was an uprising by the Novgorod Republic against Mstislav's rule, ultimately leading to his defeat and expulsion from the city. Despite these challenges, Mstislav I is remembered as a skilled ruler who expanded the influence of Kievan Rus' and strengthened its position in the region.
