Rajasinghe II was the ruler of the Kingdom of Kandy from 1635 to 1687. During his reign, he faced several significant wars and conflicts. One of the most important wars was the Portuguese-Sinhalese War, which occurred from 1638 to 1658. This conflict saw Rajasinghe II leading the resistance against Portuguese colonial forces, ultimately resulting in their expulsion from the island. Another notable war was the Dutch-Sinhalese War, which took place from 1656 to 1658. Rajasinghe II fought against the Dutch East India Company, but was eventually forced to sign a treaty that granted the Dutch control over coastal areas. Despite these setbacks, Rajasinghe II is remembered as a resilient ruler who defended the independence of the Kingdom of Kandy.
