The Johor Sultanate was founded by Malaccan Sultan Mahmud Shah's son, Sultan Alauddin Riayat Shah II in 1528. It was a predecessor of modern-day state of Johor in Malaysia. With the Anglo-Dutch Treaty of 1824 the Johor Sultanate was divided in zones of influence between the British and the Dutch.
