Establishment
January 669: In 666, the Goguryeo dictator Yeon Gaesomun died and an internal struggle between his sons for power broke out. Goguryeo was thrown into chaos and weakened by the succession struggle. In 668, the Tang and Silla forces besieged and conquered Pyongyang, which led to the conquest of Goguryeo.

January 698: In 696-697, Qapaghan, the ruler of the Second Turkic Khaganate, successfully conquered the Khitans in the region between eastern Mongolia and Manchuria.
January 699: Balhae was established by refugees from Goguryeo and Tungusic Mohe tribes in 698, when the first king, Dae Joyeong, defeated the Wu Zhou dynasty at Tianmenling.
January 700: In 699, Go Deokmu rebelled and created Lesser Goguryeo.
January 700: Little Goguryeo is said to have been established by refugees of Goguryeo after its defeat by the Tang dynasty in 699.
Disestablishment
January 762: The Protectorate General to Pacify the East, otherwise known as the Andong Protectorate, was abandoned in 756 or ended in 761.
