Was one of the major principalities that succeeded Kievan Rus' in the late 12th century, centered in Ryazan (Russia). It was a Mongol vassal from 1238, and from 1261 a vassal of the successor state of the Mongol Empire in the region, the Golden Horde. In 1456 it finally became a vassal of the Grand Duchy of Moscow.
