On 27 September 1962, revolutionaries inspired by the Arab nationalist ideology of United Arab Republic (Egyptian) President Gamal Abdel Nasser deposed the newly crowned King Muhammad al-Badr, took control of Sanaʽa, and established the Yemen Arab Republic.

1. North Yemen Civil War

Was a civil war fought in North Yemen from 1962 to 1970 between partisans of the Mutawakkilite Kingdom and supporters of the Yemen Arab Republic.

2. Yemenite War of 1979

Was a short military conflict between the Yemen Arab Republic (YAR; North Yemen) and the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen (PDRY; South Yemen).

March 1979: Southern Yemen forces capturied a wide range of Northern territory and besieged the cities of Taizz and Al Bayda.

March 1979: The leaders of North Yemen, President Ali Abdullah Saleh, and South Yemen, President Abdul Fattah Ismail, called a bilateral ceasefire in 1979. This marked a significant moment in the ongoing conflict between the two regions, eventually leading to the unification of Yemen in 1990.

3. Unification of Yemen

In 1990 the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen (also known as South Yemen) was united with the Yemen Arab Republic (also known as North Yemen), forming the Republic of Yemen.

May 1990: It united with the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen (commonly known as South Yemen), to form the current Republic of Yemen.
