Ahmose I was a pharaoh who ruled over Ancient Egypt from approximately -1549 to -1524. He is known for his role in the liberation of Egypt from the Hyksos, a foreign dynasty that had ruled over the northern part of the country for several centuries. During his reign, Ahmose I led successful military campaigns against the Hyksos, culminating in the Siege of Avaris in -1549 and the Battle of Sharuhen in -1525. These victories marked the end of the Second Intermediate Period and the beginning of the New Kingdom, a period of great prosperity and expansion for Egypt.
