Was a polity that emerged in present-day Moldavia during the Russian Revolution. It was annexed by Romania a year later.
Summary
The Moldavian Democratic Republic was a short-lived state that existed in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution. In 1917, the Sfatul Țării (Moldavian Parliament) declared the independence of Bessarabia from Russia and the establishment of the Moldavian Democratic Republic.
The new republic aimed to assert its autonomy and align itself with the emerging democratic trends in Europe. However, it faced significant challenges, including economic difficulties, ethnic tensions, and pressure from neighboring powers. In 1918, the Sfatul Țării voted to unite Bessarabia with the Kingdom of Romania, effectively ending the existence of the Moldavian Democratic Republic.
